At West Seattle Learning Center, I believe that every student is unique and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to education. That's why I take the time to get to know each of my students and tailor my programs to meet their individual needs and learning styles.
Sessions are typically 30 minutes long and learning time is maximized to review and teach new concepts with compassion and motivation. Families are required to confirm schedule and send payments at the beginning of each month. Reach out to me for more information about our dynamic services to help your student grow in confidence and skill.
My name is Sara Kunkel, and I have dedicated my career to teaching confidence and the joy of learning. I hold a master's and bachelor's degree in education with a focus on math and an emphasis on Youth Development. With over 15 years of experience teaching math and technology/STEM classes to middle and high school students, I've learned how to reach students with diverse learning styles and support those with learning differences, including dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyslexia, and the autism spectrum.
At the core of my educational philosophy, I believe every student is unique and capable of learning when provided with the right mindsets and tools. I use growth mindset strategies and fun tricks, which I call "Mrs. Kunkelisms," to make math enjoyable and easy to remember. In my classroom, students gain confidence, ask questions until they understand, and learn from their mistakes. I encourage a positive mindset, reminding students that "can't" just means "not yet."
I set high academic standards and tailor my teaching to each student's learning style, ensuring they feel challenged but not overwhelmed. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and confident in their abilities. I also focus on building strong relationships with students and their families, promoting a positive and respectful learning space.
In addition to my professional life, I am a busy mom of two talented children and a wife to my amazing husband. I love working in my urban dahlia garden and am passionate about music—I'm currently learning to play the electric guitar at the School of Rock. I can’t wait to share the joy of learning with you and your student(s) and help them enjoy and excel in math.
At West Seattle Learning Center, I am dedicated to providing quality educational services to students.
